The First Global War was a major war fought across the planet of Nirn from 4E 202 to 4E 220. It was the largest, deadliest, and most destructive conflict in Tamriel's history (until the Second Global War was fought), and was considered "global" due to kingdoms on other continents (including Hyrule and Calradia) sending soldiers and equipment in support of both sides. essentially becoming a series of proxy wars between these foreign powers.

Prelude[]

The war was the direct result of the Skyrim Civil War, when the Stormcloak Rebellion succeeded in ousting the Empire from Skyrim. Shortly thereafter, the "Night of Blood" occurred, in which all non-human races in Skyrim (barring a select few individuals who either proved themselves useful or were under the protection of the Last Dragonborn) were rounded up and killed en masse, their businesses seized, and their assets absorbed into the Skyrim government.

The Aldmeri Dominion, which had used the Empire as a puppet to exert their control, found its grasp loosening after the Skyrim Civil War. Skyrim now represented a major threat, mainly due to having Hendar, The Last Dragonborn on its side.

Course of the War[]

Invasion of Morrowind[]

On the 1st of Hearthfire, 4E 202, Skyrim launched an invasion of the neighboring province of Morrowind. Led by The Last Dragonborn, his wife, and his sister, the Skyrim armies launched amphibious landings and fast, merciless attacks that Ulfric had coined the "Blitzkrieg". Within hours, the House Redoran capitol of Blacklight, as well as the Redoran city of Silgrad and towns of Cormaris View, Belemis, and Varanis Hall, were all captured, marked by mass civilian genocide.

House Redoran fell upon Blacklight's capture. In the days to follow, Houses Telvanni, and Indoril also fell, leading Houses Dres and Sadras to unite what territory remained out of Skyrim's hands as a united Morrowind government.

This union lasted until 13th of Frostfall, when unrelenting attacks by Skyrim finally saw the Morrowind capitol of Sadrith Mora fall to The Last Dragonborn. Morrowind was fully annexed by Skyrim after the Jarls met at a Moot on the 20th of Frostfall. The vote was unanimous, according to some sources.

Argonian Holocaust[]

During the fighting in Morrowind, groups of soldiers, who came to call themselves the "Raiders of the Lost Cart", were stationed on roads near Black Marsh to raid all shipping coming to and from the province. This was to disrupt trade between Morrowind and Black Marsh so as to weaken Morrowind's economy. Some carts, though, were let go unmolested if they were Skyrim-bound.

In response to these unprovoked attacks on civilians, the An-Xileel declared war on Skyrim. Many in Black Marsh called this a "fatal mistake", and indeed, it cost them dearly.

Before the raids began, the people of Black Marsh were supportive of the invasion, esepcially since House Telvanni routinely rounded up slaves. But when the invasion began, public opinion turned against the An-Xileel, who had made the rash decision to raise the ire of the volatile Ulfric Stormcloak. The civil unrest caused by the An-Xileel's short-sightedness was seized upon by the Hist, who moved to support Skyrim's invasion in hopes of gaining more influence in High Rock.

The Hists' efforts were for naught, though, as the Skyrim armies showed no distinction between An-Xileel, Hist, or civilians. The Last Dragonborn famously carved a swathe of death through a massive An-Xileel army.

On the 4th of Evening Star, Skyrim's main invasion force entered the An-Xileel capitol of Gideon, levelling much of the city with trebuchets and The Last Dragonborn's liberal use of the Fire Breath shout. Roughly 95% of the city's Argonian population was slaughtered during the siege, and captured the royal family for public execution in Solitude. They were charged with "existing", and beheaded one-by-one.

The An-Xileel was dissolved on the 7th of Evening Star, followed several hours later by the Hist. By the 13th of Evening Star, the Argonian race became critically endangered.

Imperial and Dominion Response[]

The Empire, still reeling from the assassination of Titus Mede II by the Dark Brotherhood, began building up troops along the northern border with Skyrim. The new emperor, Titus Mede III, declared that Skyrim would pay dearly for their unprovoked aggression.

The Aldmeri Dominion, meanwhile, stayed silent on the matter. Secretly, they were freaking out. Blame for the war ultimately fell on them, and if Skyrim invaded the Summerset Isles, their forces, still not at full strength due to the Great War, would undoubtedly be destroyed by The Last Dragonborn.
