The Maelstrom of Bal is a legendary whirlpool in the expanse of the Abecean Sea. The maelstrom is said to move slowly with time, but it most often documented as being just east of Thras.
History[]
It is unknown whether the Maelstrom of Bal is just another example of exaggerated pirate folklore that ultimately proves to be ficticious, but it is said to have been spotted by a number of sailors. It is a violent, unending vortex the source of which is unknown. Ships that sail near it are said to dissapear without a trace. It is hypothesized that it is a gate to Oblivion, particularly Coldharbour, but there is no way of confirming this theory without entering the Maelstrom itself. Sailors who've sailed near it and lived to tell the tale claim to have seen strange visions of a ship made entirely of human remains being crewed by a pack of grey ghouls; hinting towards possible links to The Leviathan.
