Nahldinok (NAhLDINOK) was a Dragon Priest who ruled Felduven's region. He was a loyal and quiet priest who ruled with fear as much as he did malice. While he was intensely afraid of his dragon masters, Nahldinok followed their commands absolutely. He kept Felduven's region in line by routinely executing dissenters and threatening the rest of the population with his lethal magika abilities. Unlike other Dragon Priests, however, Nahldinok was not egotistical or arrogant. As such, he never tried to rule Felduven's region in the dragon's stead, implement his own ideas on how the enslaved population should be ruled, or potray himself as a god.

Appearance and Personality[]

Nahldinok was originally of Nordic descent. He looked like any other Dragon Priest, donning the regular clothes of the profession at all times. He did not wield a staff, though he did wear a mask named after himself. Nahldinok was shorter and scrawnier than most, though his bulky Dragon Priest attire hid this fact from the people he ruled. Personality-wise, Nahldinok was a quiet, private person. He did not like interacting with others, instead preferring to be alone to practice and perfect his magic techniques. Since he did not use a staff, Nahldinok's magic abilities were all conjured from his hands, and he needed quite a bit of time alone to work with such techniques. Nahldinok, while wise and pragmatic, was also a fearful being; this was no more evident than when he was around the dragons. They frightened him to the point of causing him to visible shake. Nahldinok was not particularly arrogant or cruel, though he did act cruelly because his dragon masters demanded it. Though Nahldinok was quite attached to the dragon-worshiping faith, he wanted to live more than he wanted to remain devout. Thus, he felt it was necessary and right to betray the dragons when the Dragon War was lost and his life was put at risk. He never felt guilty about doing so.

History[]

Nahldinok functioned as Felduven's Dragon Priest throughout the latter stages of the Dragon War. He was a loyal, quiet, unassuming Dragon Priest, and he was much liked by Felduven and the other dragons in the region. When Alduin was sent forward in time and the war lost for the dragons, Nahldinok panicked. He was fearful that the Nords who opposed the dragons would execute him for his role in upholding the dragon empires, so he planned on defecting. While Felduven was away dueling with Sahloksil, Nahldinok requested a meeting with the second most powerful dragon in the region, Vulkrahbeyn. As soon as the mighty dragon was summoned, however, Nahldinok attacked and killed him using his powerful magika and the element of surprise. Then, he attempted to flee to those who opposed the dragons, citing his murder of Vulkrahbeyn as proof that he was on their side. But when Felduven learned of Nahldinok's treachery, his anger was so great that he recklessly lit entire countrysides on fire, killing thousands of his former slaves and free Nords alike, so blind was his fury. He flew faster than the winds to find his Dragon Priest before the man could escape. It was not long after that he happened upon a caravan of supposed beggars fleeing to Whiterun and saw Nahldinok to be amongst them. And when he descended upon his former priest, Felduven was not slow to kill Nahldinok. He tortured his former Dragon Priest with his flames, causing Nahldinok's screams to be heard as far away as Rorikstead. After he had sufficiently charred Nahldinok, he took a bite out of the screaming priest's flesh, tearing him in half. Instead of eating the foul betrayer though, Felduven spit him out and let Nahldinok's horrific-looking remains serve as a monument to his sins.

Trivia[]

  • Nahldinok's name translates to "Living Death" in the dragon language.
