NirncruxVein

A Nirncrux vein in a mine in Craglorn.

Nirncrux, sometimes called Red Brittle, is a substance found only in Craglorn, a region in north-eastern Hammerfell. The ancient Nedes discovered how to use it to harness the power of the stars, piquing the interest of organizations such as the Scaled Court, the Star-Gazers, and the Iron Orcs. In its raw form, it releases a poisonous gas when cracked which can cause symptoms ranging from nausea, body tremors, disorientation to convulsions, slurred speech, memory loss, and death.

Usage[]

The Children's Anuad, The Burned-Mane Canon, Fallwind, The Firmament[]

Prepared Nirncrux increases one’s parameters, with duration and potency depending on purity and amount. It is said to let the user suppress most forms of supernatural phenomena around them to a degree. There are two ways to imbibe it:

Powdered Form; Through inhalation. Also used to upgrade weapons.

For Armor, with the fortified stone variant with advanced smithing techniques.

Liquid Form; Due to the liquid’s advanced refinement methods compared to powdered form, this form is considered the most potent ingested formula of Nirncrux for its consumers.

Even Nirncrux potions and elixirs have dangerous side effects when one becomes addicted to them and is addictive to many.

Symptoms range from pangs of hunger, insatiable thirst, memory loss, dementia, and Magicka instability, which results in the victim becoming a Spellfiend. 6 out of 10 people are susceptible to addiction from modified Nirncrux. From person to person, benefits and drawbacks of both nature and severity vary.

From recovered records by members of the Undaunted and Star-Gazers via joint operation, Second Era Reachmen once used a forgotten Nedic stronghold to turn people into Nirncrux-blooded beings called Blood-Forged.

Trivia[]

  • In the Reloaded variant of the Children's Anuad canon, large amounts of highly refined and concentrated Nirncrux is also said to be enough to shut down the powers of a Fontaine . However, this does not shut down the abilities of a Fontaine sword, enabling a Fontaine to use their Sword Channel abilities still.
  • Again, in ACA, should a Fontaine ingest Nirncrux, it has no enhancement effect on their bodies and in fact dampens their use of powers. Likewise, a Fontaine cannot suffer addiction to Nirncrux, or become a spellfiend from continuous use. It can be used by Fontaines with powerful, uncontrollable abilities to dampen their power to safer levels.
