The Stormcloaks are a faction in Skyrim who oppose the Imperial rule of Skyrim. Under their leader, Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak of Windhelm, they seek to force the Imperial Legion out of Skyrim and establish the province as its own independent nation.
History[]
The Civil War in Skyrim continued to rage on after the Dragon Crisis, with neither the Stormcloaks or Imperials gaining a decisive advantage until the final months of the year. Emperor Titus Mede II was found murdered aboard his private ship, the Katariah, with no clues left as to who the assailant could have been.
The morale of the Imperial Legion broke once news began to spread that the Emperor had been killed. The Stormcloaks took advantage, quickly marching onto Falkreath and upping the pressure they had been putting on Whiterun. They also began to divert more resources to the construction of siege engines and towards training new recruits, as they could see the end in sight and were now going for the kill.
However, during the year 202 of the 4th Era, the newly elected Emperor, Amaund Motierre, responded to Ulfric's increased efforts by diverting more Imperial resources to the conflict. Though the Empire pushed the Stormcloaks away from Whiterun, their campaign in Falkreath lasted nearly 8 months and ended in the Stormcloaks successfully outlasting the Empire.
