The Vos'na Dor, also known as the Watchers of the Crimson Gate, are an sect of warriors who serve Azura. Each of them specialize principally in destruction magic, the combination of spell and blade, and fighting as an art form.
History[]
The Watchers of the Crimson Gate were formed alongside the New Temple as a part of Azura's expanding desire to take a more active role in safeguarding the Dunmer world. They are frequently chosen from the creamiest crop of Ordinators, who then have to forsake their oaths to the New Temple and swear total loyalty to the Queen of Dawn and Dusk until their dying breath. In exchange for this extreme sacrifice--abandoning family, tradition, and house--they receive not only the goddess' divine blessings, but also wield a great deal of religious and secular powers. Chartered by both the Temple and Great Houses, a Vos'an Dor's word is binding--their statements become law, their indictments immediate. There is little fear of them abusing this power for any corruption would be swiftly punished by Azura herself. Because of their poignant neutrality, they are frequently called upon to arbitrate disagreements between Great Houses.
Their role in society thus fills one similar to the Morag Tong. Both are agents of Daedric Princes, but while the Tong are reviled and feared, the Vos'na are revered and respected. Another comparison is to Nocturnal's Nightingales.
The Vos'na Dor come into conflict often with enemies of the Tribunal, such as agents of Sheogorath, Mehrunes Dagon, and Molag Bal. Mortality among new members tends to be high for this reason, particularly since many of them operate alone.
The Vos'na Dor have no hierarchy, although they do respect those with seniority, and never numbers more than a hundred for a multitude of reasons.
Upon death, tradition holds that a Vos'na Dor joins Azura at the Twilight in Moonshadow, where they aid her in guiding the threads of fate.
Endryn Serano has sworn one such oath, and is Vos'na Dor, but was not at any point an Ordinator.
They almost all exclusively wear Daedric Armor.
